Winter weather has arrived early this year across the United States—and here in Wisconsin, we are used to it. But for any drivers who are new to wintry roads in Wisconsin, take some time to review what to do if your vehicle is sliding on ice, courtesy of The News Wheel:
First things first, do not brake. That is the worst thing you can do if your vehicle begins to slide on ice, but unfortunately, it is almost a gut instinct. Just remember: If you slam on the brakes, it will only make the sliding worse, especially if your vehicle has an anti-lock brake system.
Instead of braking, decelerate slowly by removing your foot from the accelerator. While decelerating, steer gently. Any jerking motions at the wheel could cause you to overcorrect, which may send you sliding (or spinning) in any direction.
If you know your rear wheels are skidding, just turn the steering wheel in the direction that you are sliding while decelerating. This should help you to regain control. If your front wheels are skidding, just decelerate and try to drive straight. After you have slowed down a little, you can lightly—very lightly—press the brake.

Traveling with turkey, a scrumptious side dish, or dessert during the holiday season can be a risky proposition. Avoid spills in your car or your lap by heeding our tips for traveling with food this Thanksgiving.
Turkey or Ham
If you have been tasked with cooking a delicious turkey or ham for your family’s Thanksgiving get-together, kudos to you. That’s no easy task. However, don’t let a fast turn down a city street ruin all that work. Instead of attempting to keep it hot in a large dish that could easily spill, cook your turkey or ham the day before, slice it, and store it in smaller containers. Bring these containers to the party in a cooler and heat it up at your destination.
Don’t let your delicious sweet potato casserole overturn on your back seat. Instead, put a lid on the dish and place it in a laundry basket. Then, fill it with towels so the dish can’t move. As an added bonus, the towels will keep the casserole dish warm for your eager eaters.
Whether it’s pumpkin pie, apple pie, pecan pie, or even peanut butter pie, your family and friends will be eager to try your dessert. Ensure it arrives safely by using an extra metal pie tin as a lid for your pie. Tape it on to protect the pie, and use tin foil to further seal the lid on.
Of course, the generally unspoken rule is to drive carefully – holidays are a busy travel time. Above all, if your vehicle needs some attention or just needs replaced, come visit us at Pischke Nissan.
We’re breezing through fall, which means winter is right around the corner. Here’s how to get your car ready for winter before the cold weather hits.
- Bring your car in for routine maintenance: Schedule an oil change and tire rotation at Pischke Nissan. While you’re in, ask us to test your battery to ensure it will last through winter. We can also inspect your tire tread and your brakes to ensure you’ll be able to stop in snowy and icy conditions.
- Increase visibility: Check all exterior lights to ensure none have burnt out, and replace windshield wiper blades if they are leaving streaks.
- Test your heater: Before the temperatures drop, make sure your heater and defroster work. If they don’t, schedule an appointment to repair them as soon as possible.
- Replace your windshield washer fluid and switch to antifreeze: Make sure your wiper fluid and your coolant in the radiator can handle winter’s low temperatures.
- Design an emergency kit: You should have an emergency kit in your vehicle year-round, but it is especially important in the winter. It should include batteries, a flashlight, a phone charger, blankets, coats, hats, gloves, flares, an ice scraper, water, food, jumper cables, and some basic tools.
Winter can be rough here in Wisconsin, but we’re here to help make sure your vehicle continues carrying you safely, even if that means you need a new one. We hope to see you soon here at Pischke Nissan.
The crossover and SUV market continues to grow in the United States because of the versatility, efficiency, style, and power they offer. Nissan offers six unique crossovers and SUVs in its current lineup.
Not sure if a crossover or SUV is right for you? These are just some of the advantages of driving a crossover or SUV:
- Fuel economy: Advances in engine technology have made crossovers and SUVs, particularly the compact models, highly efficient. Some crossovers are even more efficient than sedans of similar sizes. The new Nissan Kicks, for example, achieves up to 36 miles per gallon.*
- All-wheel drive: Most crossovers and SUVs are available, if not standard, with all-wheel drive. This provides increased stability in any kind of road and weather conditions.
- Interior space: Crossovers and SUVs are some of the roomiest vehicles on the market. Even the more compact crossovers boast incredible leg room and head room compared to sedans. Nissan’s largest SUV, the 2018 Nissan Armada, offers up to 171.1 cubic feet of cargo capacity and has unique storage solutions like underfloor storage and an available power liftgate.
- Power: Crossovers and SUVs offer spirited performance on- and off-road. In fact, the Nissan Armada can tow up to 8,500 pounds.
Of course, once you decide to buy a crossover or SUV, you need to decide on which one you want. Come on in to Pischke Nissan, and we will be happy to help you choose.
There are many benefits to forgoing that new car smell and buying a used vehicle instead, but it’s also important to do it right. With Nissan Certified Pre-Owned, you can buy a new-to-you vehicle without worrying if you’re going to have to spend all the money you just saved on repairs later down the line.
That’s because when you see a Nissan with the CPO sticker on our lot, it means it has a clean CARFAX title history (which will be provided to you) and already passed a 167-point comprehensive vehicle inspection carried out by Nissan Trained Technicians. Furthermore, only vehicles less than six years old and with fewer than 80,000 miles may qualify for the program.
Once a car is Nissan Certified Pre-Owned, buying it comes with a number of perks. You’ll get a factory-backed, 7-year/100,000-mile Limited Warranty that covers the engine, transmission, and drivetrain, and when you bring the car in for service at our Nissan-certified repair facilities, we’ll only use genuine Nissan replacement parts should you need them.
Other perks include 24-hour roadside assistance, a SiriusXM™ Satellite Radio customer trial, and, for covered repairs, towing assistance and rental car reimbursement. In other words, buying Nissan Certified Pre-Owned earns you the savings of buying used but the peace of mind of buying new.

Are you and your family most content when you are exploring the great outdoors? Then pack up your Nissan Titan, head out of the driveway, and set your sights on one of our state’s many great outdoor destinations. Not sure where to start? These are the four best outdoor locations in Wisconsin:
- Apostle Islands National Lakeshore: If you and your loved ones could spend all day fishing, kayaking, and swimming, then take a trip to the Apostle Islands. You’ll find a number of beaches and places to relax, but true adventurers will want to explore the sea caves.
- Devil’s Lake State Park: Wisconsin’s most visited state park is Devil’s Lake, a spring-fed lake surrounded by 500-foot bluffs that were formed 1.6 billion years ago. Experienced rock climbers will find great challenges here.
- Big Manitou Falls: One of the most beautiful spots in Wisconsin is Big Manitou Falls, a 165-foot waterfall, located in Pattison State Park. This is the fourth-tallest waterfall east of the Rocky Mountains.
- Chain O’Lakes: If you thought one lake was enough, how about 28 all at once? The Chain O’Lakes is a series of interconnected lakes—the largest inland chain of lakes on earth. Spend some time exploring in canoes or kayaks.
Of course, if you need a new Titan to take you to these scenic outdoor locales, make sure to stop in at Pischke Nissan in La Crosse.
Each summer, millions of American tourists flock to beaches in California and Florida and along the east coast. But ocean towns are often crowded and overrated, which is why many tourists load up their Nissan Titan and head to America’s awesome lakes for summer vacation. Here are the best lakeside road trip destinations in Wisconsin:
- Milwaukee: A little over 200 miles east of Pischke Nissan sits the major city of Milwaukee. There’s plenty to do on Lake Michigan there, but you also have access to the city’s top attractions, like the Milwaukee Art Museum, Lakefront Brewery, and taking in a Brewers game.
- Manitowoc: A little over an hour north and up the coast from Milwaukee is Manitowoc, which is also called Wisconsin’s Maritime Capital because of its history of shipbuilding. While there, make sure to grab a scoop (or several more) of ice cream at Cedar Crest Specialties.
- Green Bay: NFL fans will recognize this city as home to the famous Green Bay Packers, but the city is great for more than just football. Visitors here enjoy boating, hiking, golfing, and fishing—or just eating some delicious cheese. Green Bay also has plenty of other activities, including the National Railroad Museum and the Children’s Museum of Green Bay.
Of course, if you need a new vehicle for your summer road trip to the lake, we have you covered here at Pischke Nissan.
Last year, the 2017 Nissan TITAN XD Diesel shook up the pickup truck market with its potent and efficient diesel engine, which ultimately earned the truck the title of 2017 Rocky Mountain Truck of the Year, courtesy of the Rocky Mountain Automotive Press (RMAP). Nissan defended the title this year, but with a different pickup—the 2018 Nissan TITAN King Cab—which ultimately claimed the title of 2018 Rocky Mountain Truck of the Year.
Journalists from the Rocky Mountain Region test drove eligible trucks for weeks to determine the winner. Ultimately, the powerful 5.6-liter Endurance® V8 engine of the TITAN King Cab, paired with its four-wheel drive platform and seven-speed transmission, won over the judges. The 2018 Nissan TITAN King Cab beat out the likes of the RAM 2500 and Ford F-250 for the title.
“The Rocky Mountains feature some of the best off-road terrain America has to offer, and the area is also home to some of the top truck enthusiasts in the country,” remarked Tiago Castro, director, Light Commercial Vehicles Sales & Marketing, Nissan North America, Inc. “Because of that, this award holds a great amount of significance, and we are thrilled for the TITAN lineup to take home top honors in back-to-back years.”
The potent V6 engine that won favor with the judges produces 390 horsepower and allows for a max towing capacity of 9,420 lbs. Other notable features of the TITAN King Cab include available six-person seating and wide-opening rear doors.
Here at Pischke Nissan, we were already proud of the 2018 Nissan TITAN, and this award only reinforces that feeling. To explore this award-winning truck for yourself, come and visit us in La Crosse, Wisconsin for a test drive.
